Today was actually pretty epic on all fronts. I've not talked about it much, because I was pretty sure I wasn't going to get it, but a position opened up in my company which would have been a big step up for me. I interviewed for it, and expected that because the manager making the hiring decision had never met me, only spoke with me over the phone, that there was no way I was getting it. Apparently, though, she put in to the district manager to get my sales numbers and track record, and she called me today to offer me the job, with a bigger raise than she'd originally promised. It's going to be a hellish commute until my lease is up (an hour and a half each way), but the offer is far too good for me to turn down. I am epically excited.
Also, today we actually got to see Shawn (Steve's son). The visits are few and far between because his ex-wife, Leanna seems to not understand that court orders actually do mean something. >:E Steve didnt' have a lawyer when it was written, and sort of got hosed into this awful visitation ruling where he gets to see Shawn once a month, supposedly supervised by Leanna.
So, today, Leanna was not there. In her stead she sent her mother, grandmother, and aunt, so we had this like... army of irritating fake nice women who I very much want to set on fire after today. We went to this indoor play place. It had a giant indoor playground where both Shawn and Alexis had a blast. I chased Alexis while Steve hung out with Shawn. There's an arcade to, so we traded off so I could get to know my soon to be step-son (who is incredibly sweet and adorable by the way).
Actually, if not for the ex-in-laws, everything would have been epic. It still mostly was, in all honesty. Leanna's mother, though, felt it necessary to follow Steve around when I was with Alexis, trying to tell him how Leanna, the woman whose let him see his kid twice in the last year, cleaned out his bank account, and divorced him is still in love with him. When he blew her off, they started setting into me, like if they could find some way that Leanna was better than me, that might have whatever effect they were going for.
First, there was the "what do you do for a living?" grill. Now, that might have been effective if Leanna hadn't quit nursing school when she divorced Steve and wasn't working at Walmart, or if I wasn't very, very happy with my occupation. It pleased me probably more than it should to tell them that I'm management with a company I love. I would like to add to that that there is absolutely nothing wrong with working at Walmart. I used to do it. I wouldn't consider it a career, though, and if they were looking for a way to undermine what I am doing with my life, they certainly picked the wrong avenue for comparison.
So then there was the "accidental" insults. Now, the last time I saw Leanna's grandmother, I was five months pregnant with Alexis. Also, let me preface this by saying that while I'm not exactly skinny, I'm considerably more fit than Leanna or her mother, aunt, or grandmother. So, I'm off playing at the arcade with Shawn, who insisted on "teaching" me how to play the video games. The grandmother is all, "So, are you pregnant again?" When I told her no, she goes, "Are you sure? I mean, you really look pregnant. The last time it turned out that you were." It was only for Steve and Shawn's sake that I didn't ask if that meant she had twins on the way...
That being said, I've been rambling way more than I meant to. Shawn was great, and aside from that, the visit was spectacular. Eventually, I will stop being lazy long enough to upload pictures of the day. Hopefully the court hearing in August will straighten this mess out and alleviate similar situations in the future.
